I. Safety Operation Guide

Operating a 26-foot, high-performance RIB with up to 300HP and capacity for 16 passengers requires strict adherence to safety protocols. The following guidelines are synthesized from official maritime safety bulletins and best practices for fast craft.

1. Pre-Departure Checklist

  • Passenger & Load Management: Never exceed the 16-person limit. Ensure all passengers and gear are evenly distributed to maintain balance. Pay special attention to the placement of heavy items like the portable toilet or coolers if equipped. Conduct a mandatory safety briefing for all passengers before departure.

  • Mandatory Safety Gear: Confirm the presence and serviceability of the following for all persons on board:

A properly fitted life jacket or personal flotation device (PFD) for each passenger. Emphasize that wearing it is the single most effective safety measure, especially for children.

A kill cord (engine safety cut-off lanyard). This is non-negotiable. Test it regularly, and the driver must securely attach it to their person before starting the engine and keep it on while at the helm.

A  fire extinguisher, sound signaling device, visual distress signals, and a first-aid kit.

A VHF marine radio to maintain a listening watch and call for help. An AIS transponder is also highly recommended.

  • Boat Systems Check: Visually inspect the fiberglass hull for damage. Check the inflatable tubes for correct pressure and any signs of abrasion or wear. Verify the engine(s) oil and fuel levels, and ensure the bilge pump is operational.

2. Underway & High-Speed Operation

  • Safe Speed & Wake: Always maintain a safe speed for the conditions. Be acutely aware that your wash (wake) can endanger smaller boats, swimmers, and cause damage to moored boats. Observe all local speed limits, especially near shore.

  • Passenger Safety During Transit: All passengers must remain seated securely in their designated spots while the boat is moving. This is critical for passengers in the front third of the boat, who are at higher risk of spinal injury from sudden impacts with waves. Hold onto secure handrails at all times.

  • Situational Awareness: Maintain a constant good lookout for other vessels, swimmers, divers (marked by Alpha flags), and floating debris. Be extra vigilant in narrow channels and when crossing traffic lanes.

  • Zero Tolerance: Do not drink and operate the boat. Alcohol severely impairs judgment, balance, and reaction time, endangering everyone on board.

3. Emergency Procedures

  • Man Overboard: Immediately shout "Man Overboard!" to alert others. Throw a lifebuoy. Perform a controlled turn to approach the person from downwind, and put the engine in neutral well before making contact.

  • Engine/Kill Cord Failure: If the driver is displaced and the kill cord is activated, the engine should stop. Always attach the kill cord properly to prevent a runaway boat.

  • Taking on Water: Identify the source. If due to hull damage, use the bilge pump and prepare to call for assistance via VHF radio.

II. Maintenance & Care Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity, performance, and safety of your RIB. The vessel falls within the scope of standards like ISO 6185, which outlines safety requirements for RIBs of its size and power.

1. After Every Use (Post-Trip)

  • Flush: If used in saltwater, flush the outboard engine(s) with fresh water using muffs or a flush port according to the manufacturer's manual.

  • Rinse & Clean: Rinse the entire boat with fresh water—hull, tubes, deck, and console —to remove salt, sand, and dirt. Use mild soap for the tubes and a suitable fiberglass cleaner for the hull.

  • Dry & Ventilate: Wipe down all surfaces. Open hatches and storage compartments to allow interior spaces to air dry completely and prevent mildew.

2. Weekly / 50-Hour Inspections

  • Tubes: Check and adjust tube pressure to the manufacturer's specification. Inspect for new scratches, UV degradation, or leaks.

  • Engine: Check engine oil level. Inspect the propeller for nicks, dings, or fishing line entanglement.

  • General: Inspect all rails, ladder mounts, and the swim platform for secure fastening. Check the condition of the fuel hose and connections.

3. Monthly / 100-Hour Maintenance

  • Engine: Perform an engine oil and filter change as specified in the engine manual. Inspect and replace the fuel filter/water separator if needed.

  • Steering & Controls: Check the steering system for smooth operation and inspect hydraulic lines for leaks (if equipped). Lubricate control cables and linkages.

  • Electrical: Check battery terminals for corrosion and ensure connections are tight. Test the automatic bilge pump and all navigation lights.

4. Annual / 300-Hour or Seasonal Service

  • Professional Engine Service: Have a certified mechanic perform the manufacturer's recommended annual service. This typically includes changing the gear case oil, replacing the water pump impeller, and checking the spark plugs.

  • Hull & Structure: Professionally wax the fiberglass hull. Conduct a detailed inspection of the hull for stress cracks, especially around the transom and where the tubes attach.

  • Safety Gear: Service and inspect all fire extinguishers. Check the expiration dates on flares and other pyrotechnic signals. Replace life jackets that are worn or damaged.

5. Long-Term Storage (Winterization)

  • Engine: Add fuel stabilizer to a full tank and run the engine to circulate it. Following the manual, fog the cylinders and change all fluids.

  • Boat: Give the boat a final thorough clean. Deflate tubes slightly (to about 80% pressure) to relieve seam stress but keep their shape. Store in a cool, dry, and covered location, ideally off the ground.

III. Important Notes for Your Liya 7.9m Luxury RIB

  • Deep-V Hull Handling: The deep-V hull provides a smooth, fast ride but requires smooth throttle inputs. When accelerating onto a plane, be mindful of the bow rise and ensure all aft passengers are seated.

  • Custom Configuration: If your boat is equipped with a large console, footrest, portable toilet, or other custom features, incorporate checks for their secure mounting and operation into your regular inspections.

  • Passenger Comfort & Safety: For party or tour use with many guests, clear communication and secure stowage for loose items (bags, drinks) are essential to prevent injuries and distractions.
