Safety Operation Procedures

Safety is the paramount prerequisite for enjoying life on the water. These procedures integrate internationally recognized best practices with specific requirements for this vessel's features.

1. Use of Core Safety Equipment: Your Lifeline

• Emergency Cut-Off Lanyard (Kill Cord): This is the single most important safety device onboard. Its sole purpose is to stop the engine instantly if the helmsman is displaced from the controls. Before starting the engine, you must securely attach the lanyard clip to your wrist or leg. Always stop the engine completely before transferring the lanyard to another driver. Test its function regularly.

• Life Jackets (Personal Flotation Devices - PFDs): Legal requirements are a minimum standard. We strongly advise and encourage all persons on board to wear a properly fitted, suitable life jacket at all times while underway. This should be mandatory for children and non-swimmers. Statistics show that correctly worn life jackets dramatically increase survival and rescue chances in a man-overboard situation.

2. Pre-Departure Checks and Planning

A successful voyage begins with thorough preparation. Before each trip, conduct the following checks:

• Weather & Planning: Check the latest marine weather and sea state forecasts. Avoid venturing out in deteriorating conditions. File a float plan with someone ashore.

• Vessel Condition: Visually inspect the hull (especially the fiberglass deep-V hull) for obvious impact damage. Ensure the inflatable tubes are at correct pressure with no significant leaks.

• Engine & Fuel: Check engine oil levels. Ensure you have sufficient fuel for your journey (considering the vessel's large-capacity fuel tank).

• Safety Equipment Inventory: Confirm all required and recommended safety gear is onboard and stowed properly. This includes: a sufficient number of PFDs, fire extinguisher(s), visual distress signals (e.g., flares), sound-signaling device, first-aid kit, anchor system, and an adequate supply of drinking water.

• Drainage: Ensure the deck's self-bailing scuppers are clear of debris.

3. Safe Operation While Underway

• Safe Speed & Lookout: Always operate at a safe speed appropriate for conditions: sea state, visibility, and traffic density. Be mindful that wake generated at high speed can be hazardous to others. The helmsman must maintain a constant, effective lookout for other vessels, swimmers, obstructions, and navigational marks.

• Communication & Navigation: In open waters or busy traffic areas (e.g., near harbors), carrying and monitoring a VHF marine radio is strongly recommended for collision avoidance, safety broadcasts, and emergency communication.

• Compliance with Navigation Rules: In narrow channels, be aware that large vessels (e.g., ferries, cargo ships) which can only navigate safely within the channel have the right of way. Smaller craft must give way and not impede their safe passage.

• Passenger Management: Brief all passengers on the location of safety equipment and basic rules. When the vessel is planing or in choppy conditions, ensure all passengers are seated in designated positions. Standing on the bow, gunwales, or the oversized sun pad while underway is strictly prohibited. The sun pad is intended for use only when the boat is anchored or stationary.

Alcohol severely impairs judgment, balance, and reaction time—effects that are amplified in the marine environment. The vessel operator must abstain from alcohol before and during operation. Safe navigation is the helmsman's non-negotiable responsibility.

Maintenance & Care Schedule

A consistent maintenance regimen is fundamental to extending your vessel's service life and, most importantly, preventing failures to ensure safety on the water.

1. After-Each-Use Care

This is the simplest yet most effective maintenance.

• Thorough Cleaning: Immediately after use, rinse the entire boat thoroughly with fresh water, especially after saltwater use, to remove corrosive salt deposits. Rinse the hull, deck, inflatable tubes, console, and all exposed equipment. Dry or air-dry afterward, particularly any carpeted or cushioned areas to prevent mildew.

• Engine Flushing: Connect a freshwater flush kit and run the engine as per the manual until the discharge water runs cool and clear, preventing salt buildup in the cooling passages.

• Interior Tidying: Remove food debris. Wipe down the interior of the refrigerator (if equipped) and storage compartments. If the optional fixed toilet is installed, clean and sanitize it according to its instructions.

• Hull Inspection & Protection: Inspect the fiberglass hull for new scratches, cracks, or damage, and repair promptly. At the beginning of each boating season, apply a quality marine wax to the hull to protect the gelcoat from UV degradation and maintain its finish and performance.

• Inflatable Tube Care: Check the pressure in all air chambers and adjust to the recommended PSI for the ambient temperature. Clean the tubes with a mild, specific cleaner and a soft cloth. Inspect for abrasions, cuts, or seam separation.

• Systems Check: Inspect all electrical connections for wear or corrosion. Test the automatic bilge pump switch for proper operation. Check navigation lights, anchor light, and all other lighting.

• Professional Engine Service: Have the engine serviced by an authorized dealer for its annual maintenance. This includes changing engine oil, gear oil, spark plugs, fuel filters, and inspecting the water pump impeller.

• Safety Gear Annual Check: Inspect all life jackets for integrity. Ensure fire extinguishers are pressurized and within their service date. Replace expired pyrotechnic flares.

• Battery Care: Clean battery terminals, check electrolyte levels (if applicable), and ensure the battery is fully charged. For long periods of inactivity, disconnect the battery or use a smart maintenance charger.

• Spares & Tools: Inventory your onboard toolkit and emergency spare parts, such as glue, patching material, and extra lines, to ensure they are in good condition.

If the vessel will be stored for more than one month:

Clean the boat thoroughly and allow it to dry completely, inside and out.

Reduce the pressure in the inflatable tubes to approximately half the recommended value to relieve constant tension on the material, but avoid letting them crease.

Drain the freshwater tank, holding tank (if equipped), and any residual water from the engine's cooling system.

Store the boat in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location. Use a breathable boat cover to protect it from sun, rain, and dust.
